Course Overview

The GWO Slinger Signaller course at Errigal Training Centre provides learners with essential skills to safely guide crane operations, control load movements, and communicate effectively during lifting tasks in line with GWO standards.

Course Content

This course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely carry out slinger/signaller duties during lifting operations. Topics covered include:

  • Attaching and detaching loads safely to and from cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Directing and signalling crane movements to ensure the safe handling of loads.
  • Understanding the roles, responsibilities, and communication requirements throughout a lifting operation.
  • Conducting pre-use and post-use visual inspections of lifting equipment and loads.
  • Ensuring the safe lifting, movement, and placement of loads.
  • Selecting and applying appropriate slinging and rigging techniques based on load weight, centre of gravity, shape, and size.
  • Carrying out routine lifting operations in accordance with approved lift plans.
  • Promoting safe working practices by ensuring lifting equipment is used correctly, maintained appropriately, and any defects are reported promptly.

Upon completion, participants will be able to perform routine lifting operations safely and efficiently while complying with industry best practices and site safety requirements.
