Course Overview

Course Overview All five Global Wind Organisation (GWO) basic safety training courses combined into a package that introduces you to the wind industry and provides you with the initial certifications you need to work both onshore and offshore. The GWO Basic Safety Training (GWO BST) Offshore Package includes all five courses being delivered over five consecutive days:

  • GWO First Aid
  • GWO Fire Awareness
  • GWO Manual Handling
  • GWO Working at Height
  • GWO Sea Survival

Course Objectives

Delegates completing a GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) Offshore Package will be able to;

  • Begin a career in the onshore or offshore wind industry

Course Content

A GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) Offshore Package includes;

  1. GWO First Aid – administering safe and effective first aid in the wind turbine industry in accordance with GWO standards
  2. GWO Fire Awareness – within the WTG, recognise fire hazards and how to mitigate them, how to use basic firefighting techniques, how to safely evacuation a smoke filled WTG work environment
  3. GWO Manual Handling – correctly performing manual handling activities in the wind industry/ WTG work environment
  4. GWO Working at Height – performing safe and comprehensive basic rescue from height in a remote turbine environment while meeting emergency response requirements for personnel new to the global wind industry
  5. GWO Sea Survival – demonstrating sea survival techniques and safe boat transfer between vessels and installations


To attend the GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) Offshore Package, delegates must:

  • Register for a personal WINDA profile before arriving for the course
  • Be over 18, physically and medically fit, with a maximum weight of 120 kg



GWO certificates will be issued for each of the five modules of the package, which remain valid for 2 years.
