Course Overview

The GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART) Refresher course at Errigal Training Centre provides the updated knowledge and practical capability to perform advanced rescue operations in wind turbine environments. This training revisits and reinforces rescue planning, casualty handling, anchor point selection, rescue device operation, team‑based and single‑rescuer techniques, and safe evacuation from all turbine areas.

Participants must bring their own work safety boots.

Course Content

This course provides participants with the advanced skills and knowledge required to safely carry out rescue operations within all key areas of a wind turbine environment. The programme covers:

  • Performing rescue operations in wind turbine hubs, spinners, and inside blade environments using industry-standard rescue equipment, methods, and techniques.
  • Conducting rescue operations in wind turbine nacelles, towers, and basement areas in accordance with established industry procedures.
  • Selecting and utilising safe and suitable anchor points, including certified and structural anchors, while applying correct lifting angles, deviations, and edge protection.
  • Planning and executing rescue scenarios in a range of turbine locations, considering site-specific hazards and operational requirements.
  • Carrying out rescue duties effectively as both a rescuer and a rescue coordinator, with a focus on clear communication, teamwork, and leadership.
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating hazards to ensure the safety of all personnel involved in rescue operations.
  • Demonstrating the correct use, inspection, and handling of rescue equipment to maintain safe working practices.

Prerequisites

You must hold the following GWO certificates (valid & in date) to enrol in this course

  • Advanced Rescue Certificate (ART)
  • Working at Height
  • First Aid
  • Manual Handling
